Betty Draper's cocktail coasters at Sticks and Bricks

Seriously, these could have been Betty Draper's cocktail coasters.  You can imagine Don, her Mad Man, coming home from another hard drinking and smoking day at the office, sitting down to a martini, and placing it on these fabulous coasters made from vintage fabric from the 50's and 60's and reclaimed bathroom tiles.  Get your Betty on right now at sticks and bricks.  Put on your best vintage dress and run.  Your mojito needs a resting place.

croquet mallet heads repurposed as candlesticks

We're all about wood crafts these days.  Those of you who have been following along know that I have amassed quite a stash of vintage wooden croquet sets from flea markets, auctions and tag sales.

There's an expression "nose to tail" in cooking that refers to using the whole animal, and that's what we plan to do with the croquet sets.  But for now....mallet heads.  Gorgeous, fading paint-covered mallet heads.  After a quick brainstorm with liz from sticks & bricks, we decided the heads wanted to become candle holders.  So, with the addition of some reclaimed wood as a base, that is exactly what they have become.

We are envisioning a two-part candlestick holder workshop....stay tuned!

great first class!

Such a great first class last Wednesday!  We started with 2 decoupage projects:  upcycled bathroom tiles as drink coasters and 10x10 glass tiles (scored from FreeCycle) as platters.  It's so great to see which materials everyone chooses and what they do with them!

Vintage Fabric Tile Coasters- Fabulous Housewarming Gift!

don't tell, but i made this adorable set of coasters for some newlywed friends that recently moved into a new house.  our fabric stash happens to include many fabric squares of similarly patterned, but different colored prints, like these.  (see also napkin rings below).  i think these coasters hit the perfect note of hip and modern with a nod to another time.  it's what i always think of as this couple's style. i hope they like them!
